The Climb

It takes a little while to load… so go get something to drink, use the restroom, start a crossword puzzle and come back :-)

Jump Around

Coltrane got a new toy from Chris and Sarah Riechers… at least until Caeden is big enough to use it! :-)

Six months of Coltrane…

The other day was Coltrane’s 6th month birthday! His warranty is up, so we’re glad we want to keep him. :-)

He is getting bigger everyday and it seems like he has something new to do or say everyday too. Lately, Coltrane has learned to sit up, and he is starting to push himself up onto his knees! Crawling should start fairly soon, but hopefully not before we get some things out of his reach.

Coltrane continues to be a joyful, playful, content child – and we love him very much!

Enjoy these 6 month pictures of our family. They were taken at the Stone House, located in Manassas Battlefield – and were shot by our good friend Mike Smiley.

It’s been awhile…

So here’s a mac-daddy update of what we’ve been up to!

Coltrane is now 3 months old – and doing lots of amazing things! He is holding his head up on his own, standing up if we’re holding him, rolling from his stomach to his back, sticking his tongue out, laughing and most importantly, sleeping up to 8 hours at a time! Katie is especially grateful for that one!

We celebrated our first Easter with Coltrane. He looked super-duper cute with his vest and little hat. It was a stressful week leading up to Easter -Brian was double booked on classes, had insane late nights at work, all while Katie is back to work full time, taking care of Coltrane and getting us ready for our trip out to the Midwest. Despite all that, we had a great Easter service at Fair Oaks Church followed by a great afternoon at Grandma and Grandpa Tatman’s house. Katie’s mom prepared a delicious meal and Coltrane had his very first Easter basket! See the picture of him with the little Easter bunny – how cute!

After that we took our Midwest Tour. Coltrane took his first airplane ride to Indianapolis on which he was a perfect angel. He slept practically the entire way. We took a few days to spend with Cole’s Great-Grandparents Tatman and Aunt Susan.- and boy did they love him! Katie’s Grandma was in a physical therapy rehabilitation facility, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. She kept calling Coltrane a ‘little doll baby.” It was very sweet.

We left Indianapolis and made our way to Decatur to visit Brian’s parents – again, Coltrane slept the whole way in the car and developed a 6 hour a night sleep schedule. It was amazing. Spending a few days with “Mimi and Papa” was great and we got to see Ed, Pauline, Mikel, Amy, Faith and Amy’s parents also.

“While we’re out we might as well keep going…”

So we did.

The next leg of our journey took us to Springfield, Missouri where Coltrane got to meet his Great Grandparents Stearns (Brian’s mom’s parents), Aunt Carol & Uncle Bill, Aunt Bev & Uncle Johnny, Aunt Cherry & Uncle Bruce, and even got to see Robert, Hope & Lilly! Coltrane was still a champ sleeping the 6 hour car ride, being good awake and continued sleep at night. All in all a very smooth trip.

Once we got home it was time to hit the ground running – everyone’s back at work, Brian had a busy class and Coltrane is in daycare at the church. It’s nice because he’s right down the hall and we can spend lunch with him, but it’s still not like seeing him all day. We’re very thankful for the situation we have though. Works out well for all of us.

Right now, we are getting ready for a really busy summer including lots of weddings. The summer looks a little overwhelming, but we are still looking forward to it – especially taking Coltrane to The Outer Banks towards the end of the summer for his first beach experience. We can’t wait!

Brian just finished his second class of grad school (and hopefully his 2nd A) and Katie is looking forward to getting out to the pool some and doing a little more gardening outside.

That’s pretty much been us for the last few months. Sorry it’s been so long since we’ve updated – we’ll try and be better about it! But to make up for it, enjoy these pictures!

Love,
Brian, Katie and Coltrane.

Video: Hospital

Scenes from our hospital stay when Coltrane was born. Don’t worry though, there’s nothing you don’t want to see…

Family

This week my family from Illinois came for a visit – to see Katie and I, but mostly Coltrane, of course. :-)

Mom and Dad; my brother Mikel, his wife Amy and their little girl, Faith
Hereafter known as:
Mimi and Papa; Uncle Mikel, Aunt Amy and Cousin Faith

We had a great week with them and are so glad they were able to come visit. Everyone helped out around the house and with food – and we paid them with lots of “Coltrane time.”

It’s a long road trip from Illinois so Katie, Coltrane and I are uber excited that they made the trek. They are on their way home, in the midst of a midwest snow storm – so please pray for them as they are driving.

Here’s some pictures of our week – Coltrane’s 3rd week with us.
